Vagaries of Bcg-induced Tuberculin Allergy.
I INTEND to speak mainly on the results of the Dublin City Scheme. Dublin has a population of over half-a-million and our scheme was commenced at the end of October 1948. At that time Dublin had a major childhood tuberculosis problem and there were approximately 140 childhood tuberculosis deaths per year, 8i were due to meningitis-two-thirds of these occurred in the 0 to 5 years age group. In I...
متن کاملBCG vaccination and the tuberculin skin test
The immune response induced by vaccination with Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is not fully understood, and the interpretation of the tuberculin skin test (TST) is still under debate. This thesis was based on questions raised while implementing protective measures for healthcare workers and others at risk of exposure to tuberculosis (TB) in Sweden, a country where the prevalence of TB is low. Th...
متن کاملTuberculin reactivity after neonatal percutaneous BCG immunisation.
A total of 348 neonates of Asian ethnic origin were given percutaneous BCG vaccination using a multiple puncture head. Fifty five (15.8%) were tuberculin negative when tested 6-9 weeks after vaccination, a significantly higher proportion than after intradermal vaccination. The number of abscesses after vaccination was however significantly lower.
متن کاملTuberculin specific T cell responses in BCG vaccinated children.
The effector mechanisms of BCG protection were examined 5-7 years after vaccination. The in vitro lymphoproliferation, following stimulation with tuberculin, in normal, (A) vaccinated and (B) unvaccinated children and children with tuberculosis (C), were assayed. The mean stimulation index (SI) of lymphocyte transformation in normal subjects were significantly (P < 0.05) higher than those with ...
متن کاملTuberculin response in preterm infants after BCG vaccination at birth.
A total of 101 preterm infants between 26 and 37 weeks' gestation who received BCG vaccination at birth were evaluated between two and four months after vaccination. Altogether 32% of these infants had no visible BCG scar. All infants were then tested with tuberculin purified protein derivative (PPD) but only 70 returned for the test to be read 48-72 hours later. The test was negative in 22 (31...
